How Tags Work
AI-Generated Tags
Tags are automatically extracted from your captures using AI analysis.
Manual Tags
Add your own tags to captures and pages for custom organization.
Tags View
The dedicated Tags view lets you explore all your tags in one place:
Split-Panel Layout
Left panel shows all tags, right panel shows tagged content. On mobile, tap a tag to see its content.
Search Tags
Real-time search to quickly find specific tags as you type.
Sort Options
Sort by name (A-Z) or by count (most frequent first).
Source Indicators
See whether tags come from captures or pages at a glance.
Managing Tags
Easily add and remove tags from your captures:
Add a Tag
Open a capture's detail view, click the +Add button, type your tag name, and press Enter. Tags are automatically normalized to lowercase.
Remove a Tag
Hover over any tag in the capture detail view and click the X button to remove it.
Visual Design
Tags use a consistent 6-color rotation for visual distinction:
The same tag always displays with the same color, making it easy to recognize across the app.
AI Tag Extraction
When you create a capture, AI automatically analyzes the content and extracts relevant tags:
Topics
Main subjects discussed in the content
Entities
Notable names, places, and concepts
Actions
Tasks or activities mentioned
Categories
Work, personal, learning, etc.
Processing Time
Tags are extracted asynchronously after capture creation. AI processing typically completes within a few minutes, so you may see tags appear shortly after saving.
Filtering by Tags
Click any tag to filter and see all content with that tag:
- View all captures and pages with a specific tag
- Discover connections between related content
- Quickly access frequently-used categories
- Build context by exploring tag clusters
Page Tags
Pages can also be tagged for better organization:
- Add tags when creating or editing a page
- Tags are displayed alongside capture tags in the Tags view
- Filter to find all pages on a specific topic
- Combine with project organization for powerful filtering
Best Practices
Trust the AI first
Let AI tag your captures automatically, then add manual tags only when needed for specific organization.
Keep tags simple
Use lowercase, single words or short phrases. Avoid overly specific tags that only apply to one item.
Be consistent
Use the same tag format across captures—"project-x" not "ProjectX" or "Project X" (normalization helps).
Review your tags periodically
Use the Tags view to see your most-used tags and spot opportunities to consolidate similar ones.
